Recruiting: Marsh Tracks Race Team

Recruiting: Marsh Tracks Race Team

Not every club are as lucky as VC Melyd in having such great resource such as Marsh Tracks on their doorstep – and currently Marsh Tracks Race Team are recruiting for youth and junior riders.

It is a great club agnostic progression for talented riders of all ages to progress to, receive structured training from the array of coaches we now field, along with others in the area, and progress to compete.

MTRT (Marsh Tracks Race Team) is currently recruiting for youth riders, for Road Racing, Time Trial,  CycloCross, Mountain Bike (MTB), and Cyclocross (CX) so whether it’s something you thought you would like to progress to, or you know someone who would grow with the opportunity – now is the time to apply. The recruitment window is open from Saturday the 22nd of October 2016 until Saturday November the 5th 2016 – and take up is reportedly good, so DO NOT DELAY.

With the post going onto the VCM FB page late in the week – do  get the word out there – it is a great local and shared resource and should be used.

VCM is our primary feeder club and development of young riders is our goal.

Marsh Tracks, Rhyl – second home to VC Melyd, and our array of BC qualified coaches – is also home to Marsh Tracks Race Team (MTRT). This has evolved significantly from its previous incarnation. Backed by sponsors such ProPaint, B2, The Edge Cycleworks – they now have a new kit, and new team (with fine photos from Sheridan Photography) for 2016.

As of June – the site has a new website also – with much credit going to Darren Waering for putting the time in to pull this together. Take a moment to head over the Marsh Tracks Race Team and see what they have been up to … it’s clear I need to raise my game … and get on your collective cases to write me more content!! You have been warned 😉

Velo Club Melyd AGM

Velo Club Melyd AGM

The next VC Melyd AGM will be on the 24th November at 8.30pm at the Marsh Tracks Office. This is open to any paid up VC Melyd Club member and I’d encourage you to attend. I’ll confirm the agenda a little close to the date, but if you do have any questions, get in contact.— Mark Allen, Club Secretary.

Anyone wanting to take part, help out, participate, know what is going on, have your say, whatever the reason – come along, get involved, support your local club. This is not just about a handful of people from the committee this is about all of us. While I appreciate it is usually hard going to get a turn out to any venue that doesn’t involve a bar… it would be good to see you all there (and if it is all – it will be cosy).

Following up on this the following was added. Lets get some names together, and get ready for the 24th.

Ahead of our AGM on the 24th November, nominations are requested for the following committee positions:

Social Secretary – possess a party spirit;
Membership Secretary – good with meeting and greeting
Kit Secretary – likes clothes;
Junior Secretary – under 18 – male or female;
Ladies Secretary – obviously a lady & over 18;
Go Ride Representative – someone from the youth coaching team;
Deputy child welfare (female) – to help Steve keep order.— Mark Allen, Club Secretary.

Your club needs you!

Development Officer to visit ladies coaching

The new North Wales Women and Girls Development Office at our Ladies Coaching Session at Marsh Tracks on the 27th July – (Gaynor Davis) – she’ll be giving an introduction to BREEZE at the start of the session and looking to recruit some support.

If you have any questions for her – get over to the FB group and let us know, and we can get those to her.

In the interim – did you know how well the Breeze Pilot scheme was doing in Wales right now? No? Well let me fill you in…

Welsh Cycling is on the right road to get more women cycling in Wales, as the Breeze pilot sees over 1,300 cycling opportunities created for women over the last six months.

The pilot of the Breeze Network programme, funded by Sport Wales, has been well received by female cyclists and non-cyclists in Wales. The pilot was active in four local authorities Swansea, Cardiff, Newport and Monmouthshire providing fun, safe bike rides led by women for women.

The first cohort of Breeze Champions were trained in Cardiff in autumn 2014, with 50 Champions trained over the course of the pilot delivering 163 Breeze rides, providing over 1,300 opportunities for women to cycle.

Mary Trenfield was one of the first Breeze Champions to be trained in Wales: “I became a Breeze Champion so that I could play a part in introducing women like me to the joy and freedom of getting out on a bike.”

Due to the success of the Breeze pilot in South Wales, Welsh Cycling has been awarded £250,000 from Sport Wales Calls4Action to further develop cycling opportunities for women and girls over the next three years. The SheCycles Wales project aims to:

  • Provide more than 13,000 opportunities for women and girls to cycle
  • Develop a pathway to engage women and girls from social riding to taking the first steps in to competitive cycling
  • Extend the British Cycling Breeze Network across all local authorities in Wales, and introducing Breeze to secondary school aged girls.

Women and Girls Officer, Cat Crimmins said: “The success of Breeze has demonstrated a need to provide more opportunities for women and girls to cycle in a fun and safe environment. The Calls4Action funding will allow us to extend Breeze across Wales, and provide more opportunities for women and girls to ride socially, race competitively or just enjoy the freedom of cycling.

Our Breeze Champions have done a fantastic job in showcasing Breeze in Wales, and shown passion and dedication to get more women cycling. I would like to thank them for their hard work so far, and look forward to continuing on the road to get more women and girls cycling.”
